Supercharge Your Lunar New Year with Magical Products
The Lunar New Year is a second way to start fresh in 2018. It is celebrated by many Asian cultures and given many names.
The Chinese New Year and New Lunar Year are used interchangeably. However, the Chinese calendar is a lunisolar calendar. Lunar months are secured in place by points in the solar year. The Chinese New Year begins with the second new-moon day after the winter solstice. This year it falls on February 16th.
Recently, a friend of mine introduced me to the Chinese zodiac. It intrigued me because my friend believes in the Chinese zodiac, but not Western astrology. I follow astrology enough to know my sign is a Pisces and the characteristics of my sign. However, I don’t read a daily horoscope or follow the ebbs and flows of my sign. I don’t make time for that.
I did a quick search for information on the Chinese zodiac. Here is what I found:
- My zodiac animal is a Dog
- 2018 is the year of the Dog (I was so pumped and it felt like perfect timing)
- It is unlucky for an animal to be in its year (Unlucky! What?! I am haunted by this information, haha)
Obviously, my curiosity grew from there.
The Chinese zodiac is very complex and made up of the five elements (fire, earth, metal, water, and wood) which govern every two years of the twelve-year Chinese cycle. It also includes the polar opposites of Yin and Yang, directions (East, South, West, North and their combinations), precious and semi-precious stones, hours (12 two-hour periods), months and seasons.
There are 12 Chinese zodiac animals: Rat 🐀, Ox 🐂, Tiger 🐅, Rabbit 🐇, Dragon 🐉, Snake 🐍, Horse 🐎, Goat 🐐, Monkey 🐒, Rooster 🐓, Dog 🐕, and the Pig 🐖. The Chinese zodiac focuses on the year of your birth.
Why is it unlucky to be in your animal’s year?
Because of Tai Sui, the God of Age.
He is believed to govern the luck and fortune of people on earth. You have the least amount of luck or are more likely to offend Tai Sui in your zodiac year.
Here are ways to maintain luck in your year:
& to remember: I believe that you make your own luck. You create your life and your fortune. However, you can use things (tea, crystals, whole foods, salt lamps, etc.) to raise your frequency, your vibration. If these tips help you feel luckier, then you will emit that.
Red stands for fire in Chinese culture and is considered to bring the most luck. It represents good fortune, happiness, vitality, and success. It is believed that red drives away evil spirits.
Wear Jade or Gold Jewelry Strung with Red Thread
It is said that jade wards off bad luck, while gold has enough power to ward off evil spirits.
& to remember: The red items must be bought by family or friends for them to work. You cannot buy them yourself. 🏮🏮🏮
There are also several superstitions about luck and the New Year:
Do not shower on New Year’s Day
Do not clean, sweep or throw out the garbage before the 5th day of the New Year. This way you don’t wash away good luck.
Here is the full list of superstitions.
