Is COVERGIRL Cruelty-Free? (Leaping Bunny Certified)
Disclosure: I only highlight companies and products that align with Empower Palette’s values and/or I personally use. Yes, COVERGIRL is cruelty-free! COVERGIRL is certified cruelty-free by Cruelty-Free International and Leaping Bunny. Or more specifically, the brand is Leaping Bunny certified by Cruelty-Free International. You can read more about their switch to cruelty-free here.
Official statement: Beauties, we have MAJOR news: COVERGIRL does not test on animals! And now we’re Leaping Bunny certified by Cruelty Free International, which means we’re now a Cruelty Free makeup brand across ALL our products, EVERYWHERE we’re sold.
COVERGIRL products have not been tested on animals, either by us or our suppliers—it’s the toughest standard in the world. To get certified, we underwent a rigorous independent audit of our global supply chain from start to finish, ensuring that ALL of our products are free from animal testing.
COVERGIRL’s parent company, Coty, sadly still tests on animals when required by law.

On Empower Palette, I highlight much smaller brands with non-toxic ingredients. I cannot vouch for COVERGIRL’s ingredients and I do not see them listed on their website.
A lot of the brands I list are inexpensive, with affordable products ranging from $5 to $25. However, there are a lot of people who only have access to drugstore makeup and cannot purchase makeup from a store like Whole Foods or online. Many people in America are in a food desert and do not have access to fresh food or things like makeup.
Sometimes you are traveling and the area doesn’t have the stores you shop. Or you need an item that day and ordering online isn’t an option.
There are several cruelty-free brands at a drugstore, but COVERGIRL is the largest company in drugstores to make the switch to cruelty-free.
Last week, I actually bought COVERGIRL mascara from Walgreens. I hardly ever wear makeup, but my boyfriend, Nyakeh, and I were filming for an upcoming project. It was Friday, and we were filming on Saturday. Knowing and so thankful that COVERGIRL is now cruelty-free, I was able to quickly walk down the street to purchase a mascara.
If you’re curious about what mascara I bought, I chose Clump Crusher Extensions in black.
Both I and Nyakeh loved the results. My eyelashes looked incredible!
You can shop Clump Crusher on Amazon.
Will I purchase their mascara again?
Probably not. Only because I want to use a mascara that has very clean ingredients. I want to know every ingredient I am applying by my eyes.
Once I dedicated my lifestyle to cruelty-free, the options at drugstores were very disappointing. So I am ECSTATIC that women have more options and opportunities to follow a cruelty-free lifestyle.
