Destigmatizing Lingerie (What Do You Believe?) + 5 Brands We Support
Updated April 10, 2019
When it comes to lingerie, there is a lot of confusion and mixed beliefs.
We are changing your mindset about lingerie TODAY! Lingerie is all about empowering YOU. I want you to think about the following points and reframe your thoughts around lingerie. Here we go:
Lingerie is ageless, timeless and genderless
Wear it in public or private
Use it as a pick-me-up or part of your self-care routine
You can gift lingerie to your #EmpowerSquad to promote body positivity and self-care
You are no longer associating it with shame
While money from sex workers fuels part of the industry and brand imagery alludes to sex and sex work, most brands won't associate with sex workers (keep this hypocrisy in mind)
Think of the many male music artists who promote sex or men who are former strippers (e.g., Channing Tatum, Chris Pratt, Javier Bardem) and male sex workers. Shame is not a part of the conversation.
Most female music artists are sexual, and you may be a fan of a former stripper (e.g., Lady Gaga, Dita Von Teese, NeNe Leakes, Eve, Courtney Love), plus women watch and participate in sex work, too
No more shaming other women when it comes to sex. If he can do it, we can do it better 😉
Lingerie doesn’t mean sex or have to be sexual
No longer let society tell you that wearing lingerie says you are asking for sex
You can call lingerie whatever you want! (e.g., underwear, panties, curve holders, underthings)
From now on, you will buy lingerie for YOU. Ain’t nobody got time to buy lingerie for their partner
Awesome! If you need to read it again or come back to the list, go ahead 💜
Here are 5 lingerie brands and their creators who speak our language of self-love and empowerment:
Abigail Sloan: Founder of Willow Layne Lingerie
Ethical, non-objectifying lingerie for women who buy lingerie for themselves
We believe that every body is beautiful and every woman deserves to feel beautiful, confident, and sexy in her own skin. It is our mission to provide lingerie that is designed with women’s pleasure and comfort as the top priority. We are greatly disheartened at the objectification and overt-sexualization of women’s bodies that major lingerie brands employ as a major marketing strategy to sell their products.
YOU are beautiful and you shouldn’t have to have a partner to “allow” yourself to buy something sexy. You should be able to buy it for yourself because you deserve to feel like the sexy, confident, and empowered woman you are. Because you are more than worth it.
