B Corp Certified Cosmetic Companies You Need To Know

B Corp Certified Cosmetic Companies You Need To Know

Updated April 25, 2019

Disclosure: I only highlight companies and products that align with Empower Palette’s values and/or I personally use. This blog receives a commission from purchases through some of the links in this post (affiliate links). To see a full list of the brands I earn commissions from, check out the shop page.

Get you a skincare company that’s certified! Let the other companies know that their products can’t touch your skin unless they are certified.

You obviously have VIP skin and not just anyone can touch it. DUHHH 😂

But why is a certification great? Whether it is certified organic, B Corp, or vegan, YOU know that the company can’t write whatever it wants to get you to buy. Their company and/or product(s) are REGULATED.

For example, if a company says, “We don’t test on animals”. What they may not be telling you is, “We hire others to do it for us.”

Companies can be sneaky. What a company DOESN’T say is usually the most ethically important information.

What does the B Corp Certification mean?

Companies like Ben & Jerry’s, Kickstarter, and Patagonia, Inc. are all certified B Corporations.

Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

Society’s most challenging problems cannot be solved by government and nonprofits alone. The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high quality jobs with dignity and purpose.

Certified B Corporations achieve a minimum verified score on the B Impact Assessment—a rigorous assessment of a company’s impact on its workers, customers, community, and environment—and make their B Impact Report transparent on bcorporation.net. Certified B Corporations also amend their legal governing documents to require their board of directors to balance profit and purpose.

Now onto the four B Corps that EP loves!

  1. Captain Blankenship founded by Jana Blankenship

Cold pressed organic plant oils, flowers, seaweeds, sea salt and organic essential oils bring us back to the primacy of experience with the land and sea. These ingredients not only conjure the natural world, but are highly beneficial for our skin, body, hair and senses. Our mantra at Captain Blankenship is ‘beauty wild with nature’. We are a small, women-run company in the Hudson River Valley that makes products that are luxurious and honest.
